About the role
Responsibilities
- Act as the first point of contact for general enquiries and provide detailed information regarding library rules, guidelines, and procedures
- Retrieve, compile, and file borrowing and lending requests while ensuring circulation policies are administered correctly
- Troubleshoot and resolve routine issues related to library services and equipment
- Handle fees and fines on a regular basis
- Search catalogue records for material availability and follow copyright procedures for duplicating or digitizing material
- Provide user support for computer workstations, laptops, printers, photocopiers, and other devices
- Direct the activities of casual staff
Requirements
- Library Technician diploma or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum of two years of recent experience providing front-line customer service in a library environment
- At least one year of experience working with Ex Libris Alma or a comparable library system
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and experience searching library catalogues/databases in Windows/Mac environments
- Demonstrated experience performing circulation services
- Ability to lift heavy boxes, shelve a large volume of library materials, and push loaded book trucks
- Ability to work a set full-time schedule including alternating days, evenings, and weekends
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of the Copyright Act of Canada and principles of fair dealing in post-secondary institutions
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including SharePoint, OneDrive, and Teams
- Willingness to pursue additional education and training to complement the academic library environment
