Ignition and Automation Support Engineer

Responsibilities

• Answer and triage inbound support calls and tickets regarding Ignition-based platforms and HMI/PLC automation systems.
• Perform initial diagnostics to determine problem scope and business impact for clients.
• Independently troubleshoot and resolve common issues within Ignition applications and HMI/PLC control logic.
• Escalate complex architectural, custom development, or programming issues to Level 2/3 engineering with detailed documentation.
• Provide temporary workarounds to keep client operations running while permanent fixes are developed.
• Use remote access tools to perform direct diagnostics and monitoring on client systems and PLCs.
• Work flexible, rotating 24/7 shifts (8-hour or 12-hour rotations) to ensure continuous support coverage.

Requirements

• Understanding of Ignition architecture, including gateways, modules, and clients.
• Experience troubleshooting SCADA/HMI systems and real-time data acquisition environments.
• Basic understanding of Python scripting to identify logic issues in application behavior.
• Knowledge of PLC operation and common industrial protocols such as Modbus, OPC-UA, or Ethernet/IP.
• Proficiency with SQL queries, connection troubleshooting, and data integrity checks.
• Understanding of TCP/IP networking, VPNs, firewalls, and device communication.
• Ability to work rotating 24/7 shifts, including nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2+ years of technical support experience with production systems in an industrial environment.
• 1+ years of hands-on experience with Ignition-based applications or similar SCADA platforms.
• 1+ years of experience troubleshooting PLC-based automation systems.
• PLC programming experience (ladder logic, structured text, or function blocks).
• Ignition Level 1 Associate certification or higher.
• Background in industrial automation or manufacturing IT.
