HVAC Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Install, service, and repair environmental-control systems in residential, commercial, and industrial settings
• Troubleshoot and correct digital control software using computer skills
• Mount compressor, condenser, and chiller units using rigging, power, and hand tools
• Fabricate, assemble, and install ductwork and chassis parts using metalworking tools
• Cut, bend, and thread tubing and pipes to correct specifications
• Join tubing or pipes using sleeves, couplings, unions, solder, or brazed joints
• Electrically connect motors, compressors, and temperature/humidity controls to control panels
• Test systems for gas leaks and adjust controls to ensure proper operating pressure
• Replace defective breaker controls, thermostats, switches, fuses, and electrical wiring

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalent
• Technical school diploma in HVAC/R or three years of verifiable commercial experience as a journey-level mechanic
• Valid state driver's license
• CFC Refrigerant Universal Class A certification
• Strong computer skills for digital control software troubleshooting
• Ability to possess and maintain facility credentials (US Citizenship required)
• Ability to pass a government security investigation for access to Naval Submarine Base Kings Bay
• Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and climb up to 24 feet
• Must possess standard tools of the trade and wear ASTM-compliant safety shoes

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Metasys™, Telatrole™, or Niagara™ Building Automation systems
