About the role
Responsibilities
- Manage the full employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
- Support employee relations by interpreting HR policies, assisting with performance management, and handling internal investigations.
- Oversee HR operations such as payroll management, labor accounting transactions, and time and attendance tracking.
- Coordinate leaves of absence, including Workers' Compensation, Short-term Disability, and ADA accommodations.
- Maintain accurate personnel and payroll records, ensuring compliance with University requirements and confidentiality standards.
- Liaise with central University offices regarding benefits, payroll, and client services.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent.
- Minimum of two years of relevant human resources experience.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
- Proficiency in computer systems and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working in higher education or a similarly complex organizational environment.
- Prior knowledge of FMLA, NYSL, PFL, and other medical/personal leave provisions.
- Working knowledge of Columbia University HR systems, including PeopleSoft, Talent Link, or ASR.
