Human Resources Generalist

Responsibilities

• Manage the full employee lifecycle, including talent acquisition, onboarding, and offboarding processes.
• Support employee relations by interpreting HR policies, assisting with performance management, and handling internal investigations.
• Oversee HR operations such as payroll management, labor accounting transactions, and time and attendance tracking.
• Coordinate leaves of absence, including Workers' Compensation, Short-term Disability, and ADA accommodations.
• Maintain accurate personnel and payroll records, ensuring compliance with University requirements and confidentiality standards.
• Liaise with central University offices regarding benefits, payroll, and client services.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent.
• Minimum of two years of relevant human resources experience.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to handle sensitive matters with discretion.
• Proficiency in computer systems and the ability to manage multiple tasks under pressure.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working in higher education or a similarly complex organizational environment.
• Prior knowledge of FMLA, NYSL, PFL, and other medical/personal leave provisions.
• Working knowledge of Columbia University HR systems, including PeopleSoft, Talent Link, or ASR.
