About the role

Responsibilities

  • Provide administrative oversight for human resource management, personnel, and payroll functions for the Campus Life division.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate HR programs, procedures, and standards to ensure consistent and equitable practices.
  • Oversee personnel and payroll administration for over 400 appointments, including career, contract, student, and volunteer roles.
  • Manage the approval process for all personnel and payroll actions in compliance with University and departmental policies.
  • Provide training to managers and supervisors regarding recruitment, benefits, compensation, leave of absence, and progressive discipline.
  • Analyze and make recommendations regarding departmental personnel and payroll policies.
  • Monitor and produce reports on compliance with federal and state regulations.
  • Oversee employee performance evaluations, salary increase processes, and incentive award programs.

Requirements

  • 3-5+ years of progressive experience in a Human Resources role.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of organizational personnel and payroll principles and practices.
  • Strong skills in financial analysis and planning, specifically regarding personnel cost projections.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint).
  • Ability to handle confidential material with discretion and sensitivity.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for effective relationship management with staff, faculty, and students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience as an HR Generalist.
  • Experience administering HR programs within a University setting.
  • Working knowledge of University personnel policies and bargaining unit agreements (e.g., AFSCME, Teamsters, UPTE).
  • Experience using University systems such as UCPath, UCTRS, Cognos, or PeopleAdmin.
  • Knowledge of auditing principles and practices in a unionized environment.
