Human Research Protection Program Director

Responsibilities

• Oversee and manage the campus-wide compliance program for the protection of human participants in research.
• Coordinate all Institutional Review Board (IRB) activities, including administrative previews of applications.
• Manage, review, and approve all exempt-eligible human subject research and "Not Human Subject Research" determinations.
• Maintain the Federal Wide Assurance (FWA) and IRB registration.
• Administer the development, use, and maintenance of the IRBManager platform and CITI subscriptions.
• Coordinate orientation, training, and continuing education for IRB members and the broader research community.
• Develop, implement, and revise policies and procedures regarding human research protections.
• Supervise Graduate Assistants, including training, coaching, and performance evaluation.

Requirements

• Minimum of three years of professional-level experience in human research protections within a university setting.
• Mandatory experience with Social, Behavioral, and Education Research (SBER) protections.
• Proficiency in applying federal regulations including OHRP, HIPAA, and FERPA.
• Master's degree in human research (e.g., Psychology, Sociology, Physical Therapy) or a concentration in applied ethics (e.g., Bioethics).
• Proficiency in Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace.
• Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in a relevant field.
• Certified IRB Professional (CIP®) credential.
• Experience with IRBManager software.
• Familiarity with site administration of the Collaborative Institutional Training Initiative (CITI).
