About the role
Responsibilities
- Ensure fulfillment of HSE requirements at construction sites in compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and government regulations
- Support the Site Manager in implementing HSE management and safety instructions for workers and partners
- Act as the local liaison with customer HSE organizations and state regulatory agencies
- Implement and enforce Health & Safety Plans, Risk Assessments, and EM 385-1-1 standards
- Ensure subcontractor compliance with all safety requirements
- Maintain OSHA Form 300 logs and post required safety documentation on-site
- Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and investigations into accidents or incidents using Root Cause Analysis
- Provide site-specific HSE training, including tool-box talks and introduction training
- Maintain hazardous chemical lists and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
- Coordinate first aid, rescue, and fire protection programs as applicable
Requirements
- University degree in Health and Safety or an equivalent field
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Supervisor
- At least 3 years of HSE management experience on a construction site or in heavy industries
- Proven experience working on government projects (USACE construction projects preferred)
- Completion of the 30-hour OSHA course, plus required additional training hours
- Strong knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and state/provincial construction safety legislation
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
- Willingness to travel and flexibility with work schedules
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience specifically with Hydro powerplant construction projects
- OSHA 510, 500, or BCSP certifications (CHST, ASP, or CSP)
- Proven skills in auditing and professional training
