About the role

Responsibilities

  • Ensure fulfillment of HSE requirements at construction sites in compliance with company standards, customer requirements, and government regulations
  • Support the Site Manager in implementing HSE management and safety instructions for workers and partners
  • Act as the local liaison with customer HSE organizations and state regulatory agencies
  • Implement and enforce Health & Safety Plans, Risk Assessments, and EM 385-1-1 standards
  • Ensure subcontractor compliance with all safety requirements
  • Maintain OSHA Form 300 logs and post required safety documentation on-site
  • Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and investigations into accidents or incidents using Root Cause Analysis
  • Provide site-specific HSE training, including tool-box talks and introduction training
  • Maintain hazardous chemical lists and Safety Data Sheets (SDSs)
  • Coordinate first aid, rescue, and fire protection programs as applicable

Requirements

  • University degree in Health and Safety or an equivalent field
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Safety Supervisor
  • At least 3 years of HSE management experience on a construction site or in heavy industries
  • Proven experience working on government projects (USACE construction projects preferred)
  • Completion of the 30-hour OSHA course, plus required additional training hours
  • Strong knowledge of EM 385-1-1 and state/provincial construction safety legislation
  • Experience working in a unionized environment
  • Strong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to travel and flexibility with work schedules

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience specifically with Hydro powerplant construction projects
  • OSHA 510, 500, or BCSP certifications (CHST, ASP, or CSP)
  • Proven skills in auditing and professional training
