About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide field-based environmental oversight during commissioning, system testing, and start-up activities to ensure compliance with EPA and IDEM requirements
- Verify environmental controls are effective during system flushing, cleaning, and the transition from construction to operations
- Identify and escalate emerging environmental risks associated with start-up activities
- Perform routine environmental inspections focusing on waste management, wastewater routing, and air emission controls
- Support environmental deviation and incident investigations, including fact gathering and regulatory applicability determination
- Collaborate with HSE, Operations, and Engineering teams to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
- Support the development, tracking, and effectiveness verification of environmental CAPAs
- Maintain inspection-ready environmental records, including inspection logs, deviation reports, and investigation documentation
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, chemical engineering, chemistry, or a related discipline
- Minimum 5 years of environmental experience in a manufacturing setting
- Demonstrated experience supporting EPA and state (e.g., IDEM) environmental programs in an industrial or pharmaceutical setting
- Hands-on experience with hazardous and non-hazardous waste management and container compliance
- Experience with wastewater and stormwater protection controls
- Experience with Title V air permitting
- Experience with environmental incident investigations and CAPAs
- Ability to translate regulatory requirements into practical, executable field controls
Preferred Qualifications
- Five years of experience specifically in pharmaceutical or chemical manufacturing
- Experience supporting highly regulated manufacturing start-ups
