HPC Operations Engineer

Responsibilities

• Provide front-line operational support for 24/7 Linux HPC compute, storage, and interconnects
• Solve problem reports and questions from the research community, managing the entire problem lifecycle
• Respond to system alerts in a timely fashion and participate in an on-call rotation
• Participate in large, coordinated maintenance operations, including evenings and weekends
• Write code in Go, Python, or C to diagnose problems and automate frequently performed tasks
• Implement and support performance and fault monitoring systems
• Develop and improve systems and user documentation

Requirements

• 2+ years of professional experience with Linux systems
• 2+ years of professional experience working with High Performance Computing (HPC)
• Experience with parallel filesystems (e.g., Lustre, GPFS) and batch systems (e.g., Slurm)
• High proficiency with at least one programming/scripting language (Go, Python, or C)
• Strong root cause analysis skills
• Willingness to work onsite in Chicago and participate in evening/weekend maintenance windows

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with high-performance network interconnects and RDMA fabrics
• Ability to manage complex projects and multiple workstreams independently
• Experience managing relationships with hardware and software vendors
