About the role
Responsibilities
- Perform tasks related to the application and admission process for dwelling units administered by the Housing Authority
- Ensure all processes comply with U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD) regulations and Housing Authority policies
- Interview applicants and complete appropriate application forms based on responses received
- Verify applicant information regarding family composition, income, assets, and living circumstances
- Establish and maintain applicant files and waiting lists, including regular purging and updating
- Explain program requirements to applicants and conduct briefings for prospective tenants
- Assist with the showing and leasing of units and manage data entry into the public housing work-order system
- Screen applications for program eligibility and respond to routine telephone and web inquiries
Requirements
- High School diploma with courses in office practices and social interrelationships
- Two years of practical experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- Minimum typing speed of 40 words per minute (requires completion of a performance examination)
- Valid Iowa driver's license or evidence of equivalent mobility
- Ability to obtain Rent Calculation Certification within one year of appointment
- Ability to pass a post-employment offer physical examination and drug screen
