About the role

Responsibilities

  • Oversee construction, rehabilitation, alteration, and hazard remediation of affordable single-family housing units
  • Conduct technical inspections of residential properties to ensure compliance with structural, mechanical, health, and safety codes
  • Identify property deficiencies and write detailed scope of work specifications with cost estimates
  • Manage hazard remediation projects involving lead, asbestos, radon, and mold in compliance with federal and state requirements
  • Prepare bid solicitation packages, evaluate contractor quotes, and select qualified vendors
  • Supervise rehabilitation work, conduct site inspections, and approve progress payments
  • Prepare detailed reports on rehabilitation activities and project progress
  • Attend community outreach events to promote housing programs to residents and contractors

Requirements

  • Minimum of two years of experience in residential construction, project administration, or general contracting
  • Valid Michigan Driver's License and access to reliable transportation
  • Certified Lead Abatement Supervisor or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of employment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or certificate in Construction Management, Engineering Technology, Architecture, or a related field
  • Michigan Residential Builder’s License
  • Completion of a recognized apprenticeship program in a construction trade
  • Experience preparing residential repair work specifications
  • Experience working with federal and local housing construction and rehabilitation programs
