Housing Inspector

Responsibilities

• Conduct inspections for compliance in accordance with HUD Housing Quality Standards
• Measure dwelling units and rooms to determine compliance with code space requirements
• Inspect dwellings for safe passageways, stairways, exits, cleanliness, and vermin infestation
• Inspect heating, lighting, ventilating, and sanitary facilities for code compliance
• Prepare detailed descriptions of dwellings and premises
• Correspond with property owners regarding violations and correction timelines
• Maintain inspection records using automated systems and manual files

Requirements

• Valid New York State motor vehicle driver license
• Five years of experience in building trades (masonry, carpentry, plumbing, plastering, or ironwork), real estate maintenance management, or field housing inspections
• Or a baccalaureate degree in engineering, architecture, construction management, or related technology
• Or a combination of degree and relevant trade experience as specified in the qualifications
