Housekeeper

Responsibilities

• Clean floors through vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, stripping, waxing, and buffing
• Shampoo carpets and wash windows, walls, and trash cans
• Dust furniture, fixtures, and woodwork
• Collect and empty trash receptacles and pick up litter around buildings
• Clean, sanitize, and stock bathrooms, including changing shower curtains
• Operate cleaning equipment such as low-speed buffers, burnishing machines, and auto scrubbers
• Perform routine maintenance of electrical, heating, vents, and fixtures
• Assist with snow removal and moving furniture
• Assist in training and overseeing the work of assigned helpers

Requirements

• High school education is desirable
• General knowledge of routine housekeeping and maintenance work
• Physical ability to perform heavy custodial work and operate cleaning equipment
• Ability to understand and follow written instructions, chemical labels, and warnings
• Ability to work cooperatively with colleagues and interact courteously with students and faculty
• Commercial or institutional cleaning experience is desirable
