Hospital Medical Leader

Responsibilities

• Lead the hospital veterinary team and partner with the Hospital Office Manager to provide collaborative leadership.
• Mentor and coach veterinarians to improve clinical skills, client communication, and standard of care.
• Drive hospital commitment to medical quality and ensure compliance with Petco Medical SOPs and state practice acts.
• Manage veterinarian scheduling, interviewing, and onboarding processes.
• Monitor hospital performance and P&L reporting to drive business results and revenue growth.
• Oversee the ordering, inventory, and reporting of all controlled substances in compliance with DEA regulations.
• Provide high-quality patient care, including physical examinations, diagnostics, and treatment planning.
• Perform routine and complex surgical and dental procedures, such as spays, neuters, and extractions.

Requirements

• Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or equivalent degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary school.
• 1-3 years of clinical veterinary experience.
• Active veterinarian licensure in the state of practice.
• Current DEA license.
• USDA Category I Accreditation (or ability to obtain within two months of hire).
• Strong surgical skills, including anesthesia and routine procedures (spays, neuters, mass removals).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience mentoring and coaching other veterinarians.
