Hospice Volunteer

Responsibilities

• Serve as an integral member of the interdisciplinary group across home care, respite, inpatient, bereavement, and administrative settings
• Support patients and families under the guidance of the Volunteer Coordinator and Case Manager
• Perform homemaker chores, run errands, and provide respite care as a substitute caregiver
• Maintain documentation and confidentiality in accordance with training
• Meet all health requirements and participate in volunteer support groups and educational in-services
• Maintain open communication with the Volunteer Coordinator and participate in quality assessment and interdisciplinary meetings

Requirements

• Mature individual supportive of the hospice concept and comfortable with spirituality
• Successful completion of hospice volunteer training and orientation
• Ability to work within an interdisciplinary group
• Licensed driver with insured automobile in good working order for home visits
• Surviving family members must wait one year after the patient’s death before participating in direct patient care
