Hospice Volunteer

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care and support services across home care, respite, inpatient, bereavement, and administrative settings
• Serve as a substitute family/caregiver in the home performing homemaker chores, errands, and respite care
• Document activities as instructed while maintaining confidentiality
• Participate in general orientation, volunteer support groups, and educational in-services
• Maintain open communication and report regularly to the Volunteer Coordinator
• Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and interdisciplinary group meetings

Requirements

• Mature individual supportive of the hospice concept and comfortable with personal spirituality
• Successful completion of the hospice's volunteer training and orientation program
• Ability to work within an interdisciplinary group
• Licensed driver with insured automobile in good working order for home visits
• Surviving family members must meet a one-year waiting period after the patient's death for direct patient care
