About the role
Responsibilities
- Provide overall medical direction and management to the hospice program
- Ensure adherence to organization policies, Medicare Conditions of Participation, and state/federal statutes
- Establish and review policies related to patient care, medical education, and emergency procedures
- Evaluate Quality Assessment Performance Improvement (QAPI) plans and monitor medical education needs
- Act as a hospice champion and liaison to community physicians and referral sources
- Provide training to physicians, personnel, and volunteers regarding terminal care
- Review patient medical eligibility and establish plans of care in conjunction with the interdisciplinary group
- Perform face-to-face encounters for hospice benefit certification periods
- Consult with attending physicians regarding pain and symptom management
- Manage oversight of patient medications and treatments
- Document care provided in clinical records, providing evidence of disease progression
Requirements
- Licensed Doctor of Medicine (MD) or Osteopathy (DO) in the state without restriction
- Valid controlled substances registration with state and federal authorities
- Experience in hospice or palliative care or training in end-of-life care
- Not excluded from participating in the Medicare program
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
