Hospice Aide

Responsibilities

• Provide personal care including baths, oral hygiene, grooming, and linen changes
• Assist with dressing, feeding, meal preparation, and light laundry
• Take and record vital signs such as temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure as ordered
• Assist with ambulation, exercise, range of motion, and proper positioning
• Observe and report patient condition changes to the Case Manager
• Maintain patient safety and proper use of equipment
• Keep patient living areas clean and orderly
• Provide respite and emotional support for families and caregivers
• Adhere to documentation and care procedure standards

Requirements

• Active STNA or CNA certification in the state of employment
• Completion of minimum 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training
• At least 18 years of age
• Ability to read, follow written instructions, and document care given
• Understanding of hospice philosophy and comfort caring for terminally ill patients
• Current CPR certification
• Valid driver's license, insured automobile, and good driving record
• Self-directing with ability to work with little supervision
• Empathy for the ill, injured, frail, and impaired; calm and respectful demeanor
