About the role
Responsibilities
- Prepare routine and highly specialized histologic preparations of human tissue for microscopic evaluation.
- Process tissue through washing, dehydrating, cleaning, and solidifying to prevent decomposition.
- Embed tissue in paraffin/block or cassette and cut sections to a thickness of 3-4 microns.
- Assist Pathologists with special staining mechanisms, histochemical reactions, immunofluorescence, or immunoperoxidase reactions.
- Process frozen sections, decalcifications, and special biopsy specimens.
- Maintain required quality control records and ensure the condition of assigned equipment and work areas.
- Process patient care orders using electronic ordering systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, biology, or a related science field (or an equivalent combination of education and clinical experience).
- Completion of a Histotechnology training program.
- Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail.
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced clinical environment.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills and clear verbal/written communication.
Preferred Qualifications
- HT (ASCP) certification or equivalent registry.
- Previous professional histotechnology experience.
