Histotechnician

Responsibilities

• Perform technical procedures for tissue sample preparation and slide production, including grossing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, special stains, and immunohistochemistry staining
• Adhere to laboratory protocols and procedures to uphold quality standards
• Maintain laboratory equipment and monitor functionality
• Identify and communicate technical or logistical challenges to management
• Assist with the proper disposal of hazardous chemical waste following regulatory guidelines
• Support workflow and operational needs through additional laboratory tasks
• Uphold organizational standards for data security and confidentiality

Requirements

• Associate degree in chemical or biological sciences or medical laboratory technology
• Completion of 60 semester hours from an accredited institution
• 24 semester hours in medical laboratory technology or science courses
• Specific coursework: 6 hours in chemistry, 6 in biology, and 12 in a combination of chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory technology
• Basic computer skills with proficiency in Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications

• Minimum of one year of experience in an anatomic pathology laboratory
