About the role

Responsibilities

  • Conduct histology activities including microtomy, embedding, tissue fixation/processing, and staining (H&E, special stains, IHC, and ISH)
  • Perform routine preventative maintenance and cleaning of histology laboratory equipment and instruments
  • Use and oversee digital imaging equipment and manage resulting images
  • Operate various histology tools such as microtomes, cryostats, automated tissue processors, TMA instruments, and automated IHC stainers
  • Ensure compliance with tissue procurement regulations, including HIPAA and informed consent
  • Maintain accurate documentation to comply with internal and external regulatory requirements
  • Adhere to established laboratory policies and safety guidelines to maintain a safe working environment

Requirements

  • A.A. or A.S. in Biological Science, Basic Science, or a related field (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements concerning chemical hygiene, biohazards, and bloodborne pathogens
  • Demonstrated capability of safely handling carcinogenic substances, odorous materials, and other hazardous reagents
  • Strong ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously with high accuracy
  • Good written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1-2+ years of histology experience in a clinical or reference laboratory
  • ASCP certification as a Histology Technician or Technologist
  • Knowledge of pathology and tissue/disease nomenclature
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and familiarity with Oracle, Agile, or other inventory control systems
  • Experience with analytical techniques and immunohistochemical techniques
