HIM Technician

Responsibilities

• Respond to requests for disclosure of protected health information while maintaining strict HIPAA compliance
• Collect and enter data for birth certificates
• Scan and index paper records into the Epic system
• Abstract clinical information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR)
• Perform medical record analysis
• Prepare and submit records for audits and care gap closures
• Collaborate with department team members to complete various HIM functions

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to maintain patient privacy and follow HIPAA regulations

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree
• Certification in Health Information Management/Medical Records (or willingness to pursue certification)
• Experience with Epic or other Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems
• Approximately 1 year of healthcare or physician clinic experience
