About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate a variety of heavy and light equipment and tools to maintain and repair roadways, highways, bridges, and structures
- Assist with weather-related emergencies, including operating snowplows and deicer trucks to clear roadways
- Perform minor surface repairs such as pothole patching, concrete patching, and small inlay work
- Maintain roadside areas by clearing debris, mowing grass, spraying vegetation, and managing wooded areas
- Maintain and repair infrastructure including fences, guardrails, concrete barriers, and milepost markers
- Maintain drainage systems by digging and cleaning ditches and repairing culverts and inlets
- Service and repair tools and motorized equipment
- Respond to emergency call-outs, which may include after-hours, weekend, or holiday work
Requirements
- One year of highway maintenance experience OR two years of experience in landscaping, construction, mechanical, farming, or logging
- Valid driver license with an acceptable driving record
- Ability to acquire a CDL-A with tanker endorsement within 6 months of hire
- Ability to respond to emergency call-outs within 45 minutes of the Salem, OR facility
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in road maintenance, construction, or specialized maintenance training programs
- Proficiency in operating heavy equipment
- Experience working safely in hazardous or changing environmental conditions
