Responsibilities

  • Perform skilled labor to maintain and repair county roads, drainage systems, and vegetation.
  • Operate various vehicles and heavy equipment, including trucks, loaders, snow plows, and rollers.
  • Execute road maintenance tasks such as patching holes, grinding asphalt, and setting up traffic control.
  • Manage winter weather response by plowing snow and operating anti-icing equipment.
  • Maintain drainage infrastructure by clearing culverts, catch basins, and ditches.
  • Control roadside vegetation using chainsaws, pole saws, and chippers to ensure visibility.
  • Participate in a six-month rotation across different geographic sections and specialty crews to build foundational knowledge.

Requirements

  • Experience in highway maintenance, construction, farming, forestry, landscaping, or other intensive manual labor.
  • Ability to operate machinery, power tools, and small hand tools safely and efficiently.
  • Must obtain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A with a tanker endorsement within six months of hire.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting up to 50 lbs regularly and occasionally up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, and inclement weather.
  • Ability to work varying schedules and overtime as needed for emergency responses or seasonal demands.
