About the role
Responsibilities
- Oversee road maintenance crews in the repair, renovation, and reconstruction of roadbeds, surfaces, structures, and facilities
- Plan, prioritize, and assign work based on availability of materials, equipment, and staff resources
- Monitor and inspect work activities for compliance with permit specifications and safety guidelines
- Train employees on equipment use, time reporting, and accident reporting procedures
- Assist management with employee scheduling, appraisals, and onboarding
- Develop work plans for projects and implement suitable work methods
- Inspect highways and structures for potential hazards or damage
- Respond to vehicle crashes or roadway emergencies, including traffic control and data gathering
Requirements
- 3 years of maintenance or construction experience in roadway, highway, bridge, sign, drawbridge, or landscape
- Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
- CDL-A with tanker endorsement (or the ability to acquire a learner's permit within 60 days and full CDL-A within six months)
- Ability to respond within 30 minutes to the Baker City location for emergency call-outs
- Ability to lift up to 60 pounds and move around rough terrain or uneven slopes
- Ability to work in adverse weather and exposure to noise, heavy equipment, and hazardous materials
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of traffic control procedures, including highway signing, flagging, and coning
- Experience leading and coordinating a team
- Experience completing basic mechanical repairs on light and heavy vehicles or equipment
- Experience participating in district leadership teams or safety committees
