High Voltage Substation Technician

Responsibilities

• Commission and test primary and secondary power equipment, including medium to high-voltage substation delivery equipment
• Perform acceptance and maintenance testing of 600v to 500kV electrical equipment
• Install, commission, and maintain protection and control equipment, including SCADA, differential, and distance protections
• Interpret prints, analyze test reports, and recommend corrective actions
• Operate specialized manufacturer's test equipment such as Omicron, Doble M4000, MEGGER, and Dilo SF6 Testers
• Supervise, mentor, and train junior technicians and apprentices in industry best practices and risk management
• Work safely alongside construction crews and adhere to all environmental, health, and safety standards

Requirements

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology or a Degree in Electrical Engineering
• 4+ years of experience in Field Testing and Commissioning
• Direct experience working in substations ranging from 600v to 500kV
• Proficiency in relay testing using various equipment and software
• Strong knowledge of power transformers, high voltage switches, breakers, CTs, PTs, NGR, and Capbanks
• Competency with Microsoft Office Suite
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions and a willingness to work out of town on a rotation basis
