About the role
Responsibilities
- Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage electrical distribution systems (5kV to 15kV) and related equipment.
- Manage equipment including switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, substation gear, transformers, and generators.
- Energize and operate high-voltage distribution equipment and generate switching procedures for safe de-energization.
- Conduct power system tests using specialized tools such as phase meters, hi-potential testers, and infrared thermometers.
- Determine jobsite work sequences, coordinate outages, and procure necessary materials.
- Assist in directing the work of apprentices and other team members.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Six years of experience in the electrical trade, including apprenticeship.
- Two years of experience working with high voltage (over 600 volts) or successful completion of a site-specific high voltage training program.
- Ability to lift and carry at least 100 pounds.
- Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, installation manuals, and construction drawings.
Preferred Qualifications
- State of Iowa Electrical license or other applicable electrical certifications.
- Journeyman lineman experience in the three-phase electrical trade.
- Experience splicing and terminating medium voltage cables.
- Experience working on underground electrical systems and in confined spaces.
- Experience using high voltage electrical system testing and diagnostic equipment.
