High Voltage Electrician I

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair high-voltage electrical distribution systems (5kV to 15kV) and related equipment.
• Manage equipment including switchgear, circuit breakers, relays, substation gear, transformers, and generators.
• Energize and operate high-voltage distribution equipment and generate switching procedures for safe de-energization.
• Conduct power system tests using specialized tools such as phase meters, hi-potential testers, and infrared thermometers.
• Determine jobsite work sequences, coordinate outages, and procure necessary materials.
• Assist in directing the work of apprentices and other team members.

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six years of experience in the electrical trade, including apprenticeship.
• Two years of experience working with high voltage (over 600 volts) or successful completion of a site-specific high voltage training program.
• Ability to lift and carry at least 100 pounds.
• Strong ability to read and interpret schematics, installation manuals, and construction drawings.

Preferred Qualifications

• State of Iowa Electrical license or other applicable electrical certifications.
• Journeyman lineman experience in the three-phase electrical trade.
• Experience splicing and terminating medium voltage cables.
• Experience working on underground electrical systems and in confined spaces.
• Experience using high voltage electrical system testing and diagnostic equipment.
