West Michigan Academy of Environmental Science (WMAES) is part of the Choice Schools Community. WMAES utilizes 62 acres of outdoor classrooms, including gardens, nature trails, forests, wetlands, and prairies, to provide an experiential learning environment where students transition from desks to dirt.

Responsibilities

• Guide the learning process toward curriculum goals and personal learning plans
• Select and adapt instructional materials to meet diverse learning styles
• Motivate students through engaging classroom activities and feedback
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly classroom environment
• Use technology for instruction, record-keeping, and communication
• Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and staff
• Participate in professional development and school policy discussions

Requirements

• Valid Michigan teaching certificate with appropriate endorsements
• Or a Bachelor's degree with an alternative pathway including passing MTTC tests
• Ability to use technology as an instructional and analytical tool
• Comfort working in an outdoor setting

Preferred Qualifications

• Recent teaching experience or coursework in primary instruction
• Demonstrated knowledge of current instructional strategies
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Experience working with students from diverse backgrounds
