About the role
Responsibilities
- Operate heavy equipment and machinery with precision and efficiency
- Ensure equipment is in good working order at all times
- Slope or bench excavations and read cut and fill stakes for alignment
- Maintain communication with field crew via hand signals or radio
- Confirm precautions are taken to avoid conflicts with above and below-ground utilities
- Observe and follow all applicable safety requirements
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED
- Five years of hands-on experience as a heavy equipment operator
- 40-Hr HAZWOPER or current 8-Hr HAZWOPER Refresher Certification
- Valid Driver's License and reliable transportation
- Ability to communicate in English
- Understanding of proper safety procedures and hazard recognition
- Ability to understand plans related to trenching, excavation, and grading
- Knowledge of U.S.A. marks
Preferred Qualifications
- Construction industry experience
- Experience with excavations/trenching inside closed landfills
- Ability to check grade and verify elevations using a laser
- Ability to lead day-to-day activities of a small crew
