Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair equipment failures and issues
• Perform services such as changing fluids and filters
• Maintain a clean and safe working environment
• Assist in general site related maintenance activities
• Complete diagnostics, troubleshoot, and repairs on heavy off-road equipment including loaders, material handlers, trucks, and cranes
• Utilize technical manuals, illustrations, and schematics to make repairs according to OEM specifications

Requirements

• 6 months to 2 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance and repair
• Experience repairing large, off-road, construction type equipment in an industrial environment
• College or classroom training in Heavy Equipment, Truck and Coach, or Farm Equipment
• Completion of a mechanic apprenticeship
• Knowledge of diesel and gasoline engines, hydraulic systems, and electronics
• 421A Heavy Equipment Technician license is an asset

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in steel mills, quarries, mines, oil sands, mineral processing, or heavy industrial environments
• Welding and fabrication skills
• Expertise in diesel fuel injection, exhaust, cooling, electrical, and air conditioning systems
• Proficiency with mechanical and hydraulic transmissions, power take-offs, and brake systems
