Heavy Equipment Mechanic

Responsibilities

• Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on heavy industrial equipment including wheel loaders, dozers, excavators, cranes, and material handlers
• Inspect mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and powertrain systems to identify failures
• Repair or replace engines, transmissions, braking systems, and hydraulic components per OEM specifications
• Utilize technical manuals, schematics, and drawings for accurate repairs
• Conduct equipment inspections and document maintenance activities
• Comply with Harsco Environmental, OSHA, MSHA, and site-specific safety regulations
• Collaborate with operations and maintenance teams to minimize downtime
• Perform welding, cutting, and fabrication repairs as required

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Minimum 3+ years of experience maintaining heavy equipment in industrial, mining, steel-mill, or construction environments
• Hands-on experience with diesel/gasoline engines, hydraulic/pneumatic systems, and electrical controls
• Ability to read and interpret technical documentation and OEM service procedures
• Willingness to work rotating shifts, nights, weekends, holidays, and overtime
• Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions and lift up to 50 lbs

Preferred Qualifications

• Welding and fabrication experience
• Experience working within active steel-mill operations
• Familiarity with slag handling or rail-based industrial equipment
• Certifications in heavy equipment repair, hydraulics, or electrical systems
