Health Safety Specialist III

Responsibilities

• Perform technical services, investigations, and visual inspections to ensure university activities comply with federal, state, and local safety requirements.
• Maintain detailed records to ensure sanctioned activities are performed according to University policies and procedures.
• Monitor activities to prevent adverse health effects on faculty, staff, students, visitors, and the community.
• Implement measures to protect the environment and conserve University resources while limiting future liability.
• Utilize various sampling equipment and software applications to support safety inspections and data management.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree plus two years of specialized and directly relevant experience (or an equivalent combination of education and experience).
• Scientific training in physical, chemical, or life sciences at the undergraduate level.
• Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to wear a respirator.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with compliance committees such as IBC, IACUC, or IRB.
• Knowledge of Laboratory Safety protocols.
• Knowledge of animal welfare requirements and AALAC.
• Knowledge of Clinical and Healthcare Safety requirements and Joint Commission (JCAHO).
