Health Physicist

Responsibilities

• Design and own radiological protection programs for high-radiation prompt test environments
• Plan and execute radiation work procedures (RWPs) and ALARA practices for pulsed-power accelerators
• Author Radiation Work Permits, safety checklists, and establish access controls
• Manage dosimetry, bioassay programs, and extremity dosimetry monitoring
• Perform shielding and activation estimates using MCNP, GEANT4, or NOVICE
• Establish contamination control levels and oversee decontamination practices
• Monitor machine activity, perform surface surveys, and investigate anomalies
• Deliver Radiation Worker training and maintain training records
• Ensure compliance with NRC, DOE, OSHA, EPA, and state requirements
• Maintain surveys, chain-of-custody, calibrations, and source inventory

Requirements

• BS/MS in Health Physics, Radiological Engineering, Nuclear Engineering, or a related field
• 4–8+ years of experience in radiological protection at accelerators, reactors, or pulsed-power environments
• Expertise in radiation protection standards and safety processes
• Proficiency with MCNP, GEANT4, or NOVICE for shielding and activation modeling
• Experience with survey meters, neutron rem counters, and personal contamination monitors
• Strong technical writing and communication skills
• Must be a U.S. person under ITAR/EAR definitions and clearance-eligible

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior responsibility for DoD/DoE environmental monitoring programs
• Experience integrating radiological controls with non-rad hazards like high voltage, vacuum, or cryo
• Familiarity with PDM/PLM and document control practices
• Experience supporting classified or export-controlled programs
