Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA, company policy, and facility procedures
• Prepare new patient charts, assemble medical records in standard order, and create digital images for electronic storage
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Handle administrative duties including faxes, mail, data entry, and scheduling pick-ups
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged patient information
• Inform manager of work difficulties, site issues, and fluctuating volumes

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
• Comfortable working in a high-volume environment with minimum supervision

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Previous healthcare environment experience
• Production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
