Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies
• Maintain confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance for all privileged information
• Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper sources and electronic health records
• Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and assembled in standard order
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to record requests from internal and external sources, retrieving and transmitting appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Handle administrative duties including faxes, mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations outlined for the specific site

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Detail-oriented with focus on accurate and compliant medical record information
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Previous experience in a healthcare environment
• Production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
