Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests in a timely and accurate manner
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations and safeguard patient privacy
• Manage and assemble patient health records, verifying accuracy and completeness
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in electronic medical records
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Perform administrative duties such as handling faxes, mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations and inform manager of site difficulties or volume fluctuations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Detail and quality oriented with focus on accurate medical record information
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Comfortable working overtime during peak seasons

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Previous healthcare or production/metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
