Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA, company policy, and authorization requirements
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all patient health information
• Prepare new patient charts, gather documents from paper and electronic sources, and assemble complete and accurate medical records
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records and transmit them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Handle administrative duties such as faxes, mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations and inform manager of site difficulties or volume fluctuations

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Willingness to work overtime during peak seasons
• Detail-oriented with commitment to accurate and compliant medical records
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
