Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Process patient health information and release of information (ROI) requests in accordance with company, facility, and HIPAA policies
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged medical records
• Prepare new patient charts, gather documents, and assemble records in standard order
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in electronic medical records
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records and transmit them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls, assist with patient walk-ins, and handle administrative duties such as faxes, mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations and report site difficulties or volume fluctuations to management

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations and work overtime during peak seasons
• Detail-oriented with a focus on accurate, compliant medical record processing
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks with minimum supervision
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
• Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers
