Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies
• Maintain confidentiality and security of all privileged medical information
• Manage patient health records and ensure compliance with HIPAA standards
• Prepare new patient charts by gathering documents from paper or electronic sources
• Assemble, verify, and complete medical records in standard order
• Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical record storage
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records
• Handle inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Perform administrative duties including handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency
• Strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to work overtime during peak seasons
• Ability to commute between locations as needed

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
