Health Information Specialist I

Responsibilities

• Process patient health information requests in accordance with policies and procedures
• Maintain confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance for all privileged information
• Prepare new patient charts from paper sources and electronic health records
• Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical record storage
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Handle administrative duties including faxes, mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations and report site difficulties or volume fluctuations to management

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations and work overtime during peak seasons
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Detail oriented with focus on accurate and compliant medical records
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks with minimum supervision
• Able to work in a fast-paced, high-volume production environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
• Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers
