Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Receive and process requests for patient health information in accordance with company and facility policies
• Maintain confidentiality, security, and HIPAA compliance for all privileged patient information
• Manage and safeguard patient health records, ensuring accuracy and completeness
• Prepare new patient charts by gathering documents from paper sources and electronic health records
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records and transmit them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Assist with administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations and inform manager of site difficulties or volume fluctuations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations as needed and work overtime during peak seasons
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Detail oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks
• Able to work with minimum supervision in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
• Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers
