Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Receive and process requests for patient health information per company and facility policies
• Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged information and adhere to HIPAA standards
• Prepare new patient charts, gathering documents from paper and electronic health record sources
• Ensure medical records are accurate, complete, and assembled in standard order
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in electronic medical records
• Respond to record requests and transmit them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Handle administrative duties such as faxes, mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations outlined for the site

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, including Word and Excel
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Detail and quality oriented regarding accurate and compliant medical records
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks with minimum supervision
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Able to work overtime during peak seasons when required
• Able to respond to requests in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
• Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers
