Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests in compliance with HIPAA and company policy
• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient health information
• Prepare new patient charts and assemble medical records in standard order
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in electronic medical records
• Manage incoming and outgoing faxes and burn images to CDs
• Respond to patient record requests from internal and external sources
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and provide phone support
• Handle correspondence letters and assist with administrative duties such as data entry and mail
• Document information across multiple platforms using dual monitors

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Detail-oriented with focus on accurate and compliant medical record handling
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
• Available to work overtime during peak seasons

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Previous experience in a healthcare environment
• Production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
