Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests accurately and efficiently
• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient health information per HIPAA regulations
• Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper and electronic health record sources
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records and transmit them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Handle administrative duties such as faxes, mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations and inform manager of work difficulties or volume fluctuations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Detail and quality oriented with ability to organize and manage multiple tasks

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production/metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
