Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Receive and process requests for patient health information and medical records in accordance with company policies and HIPAA regulations
• Maintain confidentiality and security of privileged patient information
• Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper and electronic health record sources
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records, retrieving and transmitting them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Perform administrative duties such as handling faxes, opening mail, and data entry
• Meet productivity expectations and inform manager of site difficulties or volume fluctuations

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and comfort with Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Strong data entry skills and attention to detail
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations and work overtime during peak seasons as needed
• Comfortable utilizing phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in a healthcare environment
• Previous production or metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
• Ability to build relationships with on-site clients and customers
