Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests in a timely manner
• Maintain patient privacy and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations
• Prepare new patient charts and assemble medical records accurately
• Create digital images of paperwork for electronic medical record storage
• Respond to requests for patient records from internal and external sources
• Handle inbound and outbound calls and assist with patient walk-ins
• Perform administrative duties such as faxing, mail handling, and data entry
• Verify request details and ensure timely delivery of records

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel)
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Ability to commute between locations as needed
• Ability to work overtime during peak seasons
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Previous healthcare or production/metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
