Health Information Specialist

Responsibilities

• Process release of information (ROI) and medical record requests accurately and efficiently
• Maintain confidentiality and security of patient information in compliance with HIPAA
• Prepare new patient charts and gather documents from paper and electronic health records
• Create digital images of paperwork for storage in the electronic medical record
• Respond to internal and external requests for patient records and transmit them appropriately
• Answer inbound and outbound calls, assist with patient walk-ins, and handle administrative duties
• Meet productivity expectations and adhere to company and facility policies

Requirements

• High school diploma or GED
• Basic computer proficiency and strong data entry skills
• Professional verbal and written communication skills in English
• Comfortable using phones, fax machines, printers, and general office equipment
• Ability to commute between locations and work overtime during peak seasons
• Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of HIPAA and medical terminology
• Familiarity with EHR and billing systems
• Experience working with subpoenas
• Prior healthcare or production/metric-based work experience
• In-person customer service experience
