For over 50 years, Covenant House New York (CHNY) has been at the forefront of transforming lives by providing comprehensive shelter, housing, and wrap-around support services for vulnerable homeless, runaway, and exploited youth. CHNY impacts the lives of over 1,500 young people aged 16-24 every year.

Responsibilities

  • Provide initial evaluations utilizing assessment tools such as the PHQ-9 and CRAAFT
  • Provide individual and group counseling and psychoeducation with a specialization in substance use
  • Perform short-term crisis intervention, advocacy, and follow-up for a designated caseload
  • Collaborate with Health Center, AHT, legal, and residential teams to provide wrap-around services
  • Complete psychosocial assessments and identify mental health, social, and emotional needs
  • Link clients to community-based providers for long-term mental health and substance use support
  • Provide consultation and training to Social Workers, Case Managers, and program staff
  • Document in required systems of record in a timely and accurate manner
  • Provide dotted line CASAC supervisory support to the Integrated Behavioral Health Specialist

Requirements

  • Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) or LMHC
  • CASAC certification
  • Minimum of two years of experience providing counseling and casework with at-risk youth (internships considered)
  • Solid assessment, interviewing, and crisis intervention skills
  • Experience documenting on an EMR
  • Knowledge of trauma and mental health issues facing multi-stressed youth and families

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bilingual skills
  • Experience working in a homeless shelter, residential, or healthcare setting
  • Experience utilizing evidence-based models (TF-CBT, DBT, Motivational Interviewing)
