Head Start Preschool Assistant Teacher

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment for preschoolers
• Support daily learning experiences that advance intellectual and physical development, including literacy, math, and science
• Build trusting, professional relationships with children and their families
• Provide positive guidance for children using established behavior management policies
• Assist with classroom tasks including family-style meals, cleaning, and maintaining hygiene (e.g., diapering)
• Complete required classroom paperwork such as attendance and meal tallies
• Participate in professional development and staff meetings to meet state licensing requirements
• Follow all emergency preparedness and safety procedures

Requirements

• High School diploma or G.E.D.
• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or 9 credit hours of early childhood college coursework (including 3 hours of child growth and development)
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel when needed
• Current CPR and First Aid training
• Ability to perform physical motor activities, including kneeling, running, jumping, lifting children in emergencies, and crawling

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
