Head Start Preschool Assistant Teacher

Responsibilities

• Maintain a safe, healthy, and nurturing learning environment for preschoolers
• Support daily learning experiences that advance intellectual and physical development, including literacy, math, and science
• Build trusting, professional relationships with children and their families
• Provide positive guidance for children using established behavior management policies
• Assist with classroom tasks including family-style meals, cleaning, and required paperwork (attendance, meal tallies, etc.)
• Support hygiene needs, including diaper changes and maintaining proper sanitation
• Participate in staff meetings, professional development, and family engagement initiatives

Requirements

• High School diploma or GED
• Child Development Associate (CDA) credential or 9 credit hours of early childhood college coursework (including 3 hours of child growth and development)
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel when needed
• Ability to perform physical activities including running, hopping, jumping, kneeling, and lifting children in emergencies
• Ability to maintain professional boundaries and client confidentiality

Preferred Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE)
